He tried because conformity was the quickest way to acceptance..And if he wanted anyone to accept him, it was the blonde before him; everyone else could go fuck themselves. The main reason he didn't care much for Olympus..finding himself more heavily judged than all those around him. Out of fear he'd possess their dreams? Or out right annoyance toward his character. Who knows. His head dipped as he hid a smile at Dion's laughter. "Not too much hopefully. We don't want you straining such power." He teased softly.
The tragedy of human life consisted in their vain attempts to stretch the limits of things which can never become unlimited, to reach the infinite by absurdly adding to the rungs of the ladder of the finite. They could never live as long as their Deity lover, nor would they wish to. Along with immortality came the curse of viewing the civilizations as they died and recieved pain, knowing that there was nothing you could do about it for the years to come until the Equinox. Few Gods were still able to go about their jobs during the hiatus, Morpheus being one of them..they didn't directly interfer with lives, and therefore didn't pose a threat. Sensing Dion's discomfort, he sighed, "I'm sorry."
Dionysus would turn the entire place upside down. Thank Zeus Persephone will have taken her leave of the four months. Just thinking about the two joining forces and starting some type of loud and happy party there was enough to make him regret ever inviting his friend. Oh he recalled that incident..The poor dog had done nothing but lounge about..Fell in the river twice too didn't he? "Yes, making everything you do perfectly fine." Confirming this with a nod and smile, the latter having a devilish edge, Morpheus let Dion have his fun in imagining Hades being happy at his arrival.
He had such a static persona that the instant he did the smallest thing out of the ordinary, one might as well assume that he was under the spell of a deadly disease or sickness..perhaps even another God. Oh the ignorance some of his fellows held. This new level of closeness had him on edge. Another occasion and he wouldn't have found himself acting like a never-been-kissed, however, no one was Dionysus. "So people have told me. Does that bother you?" The kiss had him blinking in surprise, and feeling oddly dissatisfied. Lifting one arm, he brought it around Dion's waist and drew him closer. "Say it doesn't.." He murmured. [/sup]

He snorted, causing more giggles about the stupid noise he had made all on his own. No, he wouldn't abuse his magical power. He'd be fair and just with it. A perfect gentleman. All these things he had intended to say out loud, though the giggles were taking precedent. Oh, well it wasn't all that important o begin with. Morpheus would know how good he would be and how nicely he would handle himself. He would be picture perfect with... what? Oh damn it. He'd gone and forgot the subject once again.
"It's not your fault." The blame lied with no one but himself for falling for things that could die. He should have just picked a nice immortal and been done with everything. It wouldn't have been anything he would have enjoyed, but it would have been better than anything else he had endured in losing those frail mortals. Doing his best to bury his face against his friends' stomach, he huffed then took a few breaths to calm himself. He had found someone for even the briefest amount of times and that was really all that had mattered.
And with the miracle of being utterly oblivious, he managed to forget how Hades had cursed him for days about the stupidest things. Like the more dead feeling throughout the underworld due to exhaustion, asphodels being everywhere and the hangover suffered by Cerberus and it's owner. Although, the memory of his uncle being completely and utterly drunk was forever imprinted into his mind. "Exactly. And the Underworld is generally upset. He'll probably welcome me with open arms." Yes, open arms. There would be hugging and light conversation and a few good drinks. Everything would be perfect.
He tutted as he shook his head. Never would he have imagined that he could make Morpheus of all people ask for his reassurance. He wasn't the type to cause any feeling of upset. His entire purpose was to alleviate them however he possibly could. Of course his typical aversion to words probably wasn't helping one bit, but he liked to toy around. It was who he was. "If it bothered me, I wouldn't be here with you, you twit." He stated, making the insult sound more like an cute little pet name. Running his hand through Morph's hair, he hesitated briefly before kissing him again. This was how he liked all his parties to end; with him in the arms of someone else doing the most natural things like kissing.

The look in his eyes softened as Dionysus's laughter filled the silence of the room. The God of wine really should have had more than that for a title. Anyone and everyone knew Dion had an infectious attitude toward life that spread like wildfire through a party, thus giving it a brighter mood. And yet, he always found the other to be somewhat different around him; not totally willing to cast every thought to the wind. When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.
Placing his hand on Dionysus' head, he cradled him closely. "I wish it was. The I might be able to do something about it." Never had he felt so utterly helpless. Morpheus wanted his friend in a good mood, and there really would be no way to preserve it..considering the state he had just worked himself into. If memory served right, the brunette had seen Dion court the mortal, had inwardly scolded himself for letting him fall in love with her, had been there for Dion after she died. During that time had had found himself able to lighten the load on the God's shoulders, and helped, but now, as memories were brought back into light..he hadn't any idea of what he should do.
Luckily Morpheus escaped the party before Dion could sink his alcohol claws into him; finding that sleeping the whole ordeal away was much more appealing than participating. Oh he enjoyed the gatherings to an extent, but the instant they crossed some of his mental lines, he sank back into the scenery, spending time with Dionysus the next day to catch up on all the details about the rave. "I think I'll bring you as a suprise..That way he won't have time to say no....No as in, 'No it's not a problem'." Hopefully he could sneak the blonde in when he was fairly sloshed, thus making it easy to tell him they'd already spoken to his Uncle and that he just didn't remember. Yes, he'd have it all planned out.
Well..he had a point there. Not bothering to aruge something he knew the other could easily win, Morpheus pressed into the kiss; his arm at Dion's waist bringing him to his chest, and the other hand coming up to dip his fingers into the blonde hair. He wanted this sense of intimacy, but another part of him, the rational part, was screaming for him to stop and just think about who he was kissing. A God known for his daliances and ridiculous liasons..And himself? Someone with an unwaivering personality that took pride in his ability to maniuplate and decieve. This was not meant to happen. So why couldn't he stop? [/sup]

Regaining himself, he looked toward the door. For a moment it felt like the party maybe dying without his presence, but as it was still going on strong enough. More than enough people. So he could stay with his Morphy for a few more moments. And yes, Morphy was his. The other may not know it, but he was. He was like the perfect toy for Dion. Fun to lay on, good for talking, always there when he needed him. Chuckling at the thoughts, he patted his friend on the head. " I love you." Nothing particularly shocking or groundbreaking since Dionysus seemed to love everyone for some reason. The comment had probably been said plenty of times before to just about everyone. Hell, he had even told Hera he loved her on occasions.
Going still as he let the random memories pass through his mind, he sighed.Morpheus' voice seemed rather distant, yet still comforting. He would never wish such a problem on the shoulders of his friend. Lifting his head somewhat reluctantly to look at his friend, he shook his head. "It's fine. I swear, I'm feeling much better." He lied, forcing up an admittedly sad smile. No this would never do. He had a party to run and if he was feeling melancholy that would surely manage to reflect it's self onto those who were having some much fun. There was no way he could be the life of the party in this kind of situation. So doing his best to ignore his own feelings, he hugged Morpheus, and huffed. "Thanks for you concern though. It means a lot.' Later he would dwell on his life and all it's mistakes.
Oh the idea of him being a surprise got him really excited. They could surprise Hades and watch his undoubtedly happy reaction. "Oh and we can do it like a little before Perse leaves." He suggested, nodding with all the eagerness of a happy puppy. then Persephone would know that her husband was in good and capable hands. Not to mention he liked his sister. She was a really nice girl. And she made Hades happy which was no easy task since the man had the social skills of an angry porcupine. "Think Persephone will let me spike his hair?" Just to give the other god an appearance worthy of his attitude.
Screw what should and shouldn't happen. Following the rules never led to anything particularly fun or interesting. And the uninteresting and dull didn't belong in his realm of work. Oh if he wasn't busy kissing Morpheus, he would have laughed at the idea of this being work. It made him wonder if Aphrodite enjoyed her job this much.Though as he parted his lips to let his tongue out just enough to brush against the other's lip, he decided that there was no way she could enjoy herself this much. She didn't get to party and get drunk and end up in the arms of a dear friend, kissing of all things. She just got to the last part, which was a real pity since it was the actions leading to the end point that made everything so magnificent in his strange mind.

Your body needs to be held and to hold, to be touched and to touch. None of these needs is to be despised, denied, or repressed. But you have to keep searching for your body's deeper need, the need for genuine love. Every time you are able to go beyond the body's superficial desires for love, you are bringing your body home and moving toward integration and unity. How long had he been legitimatly searching for such a feeling? Forever and a day it seemed. To have Dion admit it so easily, didn't visibly cause him to stumble, but inwardly he questioned his friend's sanity. "I know." Had known for quite some time actually. As to the depth of this love, well, that went uninquired..he might find himself bothered by the reality of such truths. Hell, he slightly considered himself a notch in Dion's bedpost. Just, a really big one.
The lies came as expected, and he did nothing to stop them; having grown used to the shield after so many years. To try and correct Dion at this stage would prove futile--hence why he did nothing but nod. The smile caught him off gaurd, and he tenderly touched the other's cheek, hoping to soothe the unwelcome demons inside. "If you say so." Nothing is easier than self-deceit. For what each man wishes, that he also believes to be true. Casually wrapping his arms around the blonde's waist; as if there was no other way of going about it, he pressed a kiss to his head. "In the most cliche way possible..That's what friends are for."
Bit by bit he had managed to get his friend to leave the hectic life that was New York--for his own selfish need of wanting to be with him. "I'm sure she'd be more than willing to plan something along side you. I'll keep Hades busy." Oh yes..And then, once the party started, he'd feign ignorance to the whole idea in the first place if things went down hill. It was the perfect scape goat. Include the God of the Underworld in a game of chess, keep him occupied whilst the two Deities, who were so often in good moods, planned to surprise the older being.
It was the jolt of feeling the other so readily pressed against him that had Morpheus regaining rational thought, and breaking the kiss. He adored his friend deeply and truely..This was not the way to go about consumating his love; like some simple minded tramp one commonly finds at Dion's parties. Reason and free inquiry are the only effectual agents against error. Morpheus didn't want to regret this evening, but nor did he wish this flare of passion to continue. "Dionysus." He murmured breathlessly as he rested his cheek to his. "Go back to your party.."

And that was good enough for him. None of that "I love you too" or something along those lines. That was far too much to expect from someone like Morpheus. Few of the other gods and goddesses ever told their spouses that they loved them to begin with. They weren't as needy as mortals. They didn't have that unbearable urge to find the perfect someone, fall in love and get married. They just lived from day to day like people live from hour to hour. It was nothing amazing or fantastic, it just was. Which was exactly the reason he settled for running his hand through the other's hair slowly before messing it up by ruffling it.
Oh the beauty of someone who cared enough to let things go. That's what real caring was. It was the ability to stay quiet and not to push for answers. To simple let things happen as they would and wait for your part in it all. "Thank you." Because even the small bit of disregard warranted his acknowledgment. Shaking his head, he smiled. "You're a lot better than just some simple friend." Morpheus held a place somewhere between friend and lover in his mind. Better than one, so much less than the other.
"That's why I love her. She's so easy to get along with." He said, while his mind was still focused on just what they would do to Hades' hair. Spike it, a cut a little here and there. It all made him wonder if Persephone might be a little tiffed if he just, kind of, shaved it all off. If anyone could manage the shaved look it was his Uncle Hades, him and ... Well, just him really. "Yeah. But how am I going to shave his head without him noticing?" He hit himself on the head, laughing. " Wine. Lots of it. Oh this will be nice."
To say he was a bit put off by the comment, would be the mildest of understatements. It was perfect way to go about it. Spur of the moment, the small bit of alcohol in his system making things a bit fuzzy and giving him the courage to even think that this was a good idea. And it was. So why was Morpheus telling him it would be best for him to go back to his party? Frowning for a number of reasons, he just nodded and moved away. " Yeah. I'll just..." He gestured helplessly toward the door.

If one had to maintain any sembelance of dignity around Dionysus, it would be by not giving the other any decent replies. At least, that was how Morpheus viewed it. You could not go in depth during a conversation with him unless you were able to not focus on half of what he was saying, therefore, your own responses were limited and in less numbers. A perfect way to do things. Jerking his head away from the unruly touch, he scowled and raked his own fingers through his hair before he felt that all was right in the world once again. "Don't." While he would never admit to being vane [note the spelling], there were just some things, like his hair, that Morpheus didn't like getting messed up in the slightest. Allow him this sole pleasure in life.
"You're welcome." The sleeper had always been more prone to agreeing with Dion--despite inner conflict. If the other was pleased, then his mission was complete. The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. And that's what he did. Just listened. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention…. A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words. "And you, Dionysus, are more than an average drunk. How much have you had tonight?" A quick change of subject, and he tried his best to drop the matter at hand. Not that Morph didn't mind hearing he was more than a friend..No, quite the contrary. The mood was beginning to shift toward one he surely couldn't handle without dropping that smooth facade.
Hesitating, he caught Dion's hand in his and set it gently back into his lap. "How about we just leave his hair alone?" Sure, Dionysus could plan and go through with the whole rot, however, he wasn't one of the people who actually would have to /deal/ with the aftermath. He wasn't there a majority of the time. The more unfortunate business would fall onto his sibilings and his shoulders--not to mention anyone else who happened to wander downstairs. "Why don't you.." Pausing, he struggled to come up with an alternate to shaving Hades' hair. "Gel it?"
Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable. But Morpheus was not willing to take the chance and continue whatever it was that he had started with Dionysus. It had been a foolish mistake, one he would, hopefully, never commit again in this century. The smallest advancement on his part might spoil the relationship they already had--he didn't want that. The gesture gripped at his chest, and he stared down at the other, eyes heavy lidded and tired.

Lowering his head, he toyed with his hands. Chancing a look at Morpheus, he gave him the best puppy dog look that he could manage. The childish pout, the hurt needy look in his eyes. Hopefully that would make up for the fact that he had managed to mess up. "Sorry. I just... I really like your hair." Even his tone of voice sounded like he might cry just because he had been told to stop. Not that it would ever happen, but he was a manipulative drunk. There was almost a sociopathic way he went about getting what he wanted sometimes. He would try every tactic possible to get what he wanted.
Smiling a devious looking grin, he stared up at the ceiling as though that would help him remember. "Well, there was the bottle of wine, the champagne, the shots of whiskey, and a special cocktail. Oh and someone did a shot off my stomach." Refocusing his gaze on the bed, he frowned before nodding. That was definitely everything he had had that night. More then enough to mention since, he could have very well started off with the Irish coffee and mimosa he had started his morning with. But he wouldn't want to waste Morphy's time since it would just be a rude thing to do. "So how was your night, Morpheus?" He asked, every bit out of curiosity as it was politeness.
Gel it? Well that would but nice, but-- No. He had to shave it. So with much regret, he shook his head. "I have to shave it. It'll look nice and everyone will thank me for it." Plus it would give him something to amuse himself with for the short amount of time he actually planned on being there. And he really did believe that his uncle would look mighty nice that way too.
He didn't want to be the needy type and force himself on Morpheus, but this was different. This was one of the few times he was willing to forgo all the drinking and partying for the company of another and the man didn't seem to care. That or he didn't notice. Dionysus would much rather think that it was the latter if only to spare his own feelings. Still, he got up and slowly made his way to the door. Stopping in front of it, hand on the door knob, he turned to look back at Morpheus. "I guess I'll be off unless you'd like me to stay for a little longer?" Every fiber in his body was hoping that the other god would accept his offer and such things shown so clearly in his eyes.
