The sun would begin to disappear beyond the horizon as day became consumed by the oncoming night. Darkness began to swiftly approach and the calls of the sea gulls would disappear beyond the rocks as the moon began to show it's face in the twilight sky and perched upon one of those rocks would sit the mighty Triton, the powerful demi-god and prince of the oceanic depths his father and mother reigned over.
As he stared out upon the ocean he couldn't help, but reminisce about his childhood and how so much had changed in the absence of the immortals. It was a time when his territory was revered for it's majesty and mystery, constantly being praised by the fishermen and mariners for it's bounty and what not. It was a time when sea monsters still roamed the dark abyss and took no pity on the mortals who angered their monarchy deep beneath the waves.
Today it seemed nobody revered the mighty ocean as ships began to be built bigger and submersible crafts began to explore the ocean depths. Triton assumed in his absence, people no longer relied on the immortals to explain the nature of things or to go about their responsibilities keeping the natural order of things, it seemed to them these were duties they have taken upon themselves.
Slowly coming out of his contemplative mood, Triton would pull out a large conch shell from it's container, the old relic probably having seemed better days, still seemed to be in the condition it was all those eons ago, still beautifully decorated and still retaining that somewhat unearthly radiance, as it did when he was first granted the beautiful device. Holding it tightly Triton would press it to his pale lips, beginning to blow, the haunting call echoing through out the night as rain began to fall softly upon the waves and a ghostly sea mist would drift to the shores.
As the rain fell, it seemed all the smaller residents of the beach began to seek cover, sand crabs and other crustacean seeking the protection of the rocks, to serve as a shelter from the minor storm spawned by the demi god as he would play that haunting tune into the night.
