Name:
Artemis
Race:
Goddess [ bow to me ]
Age:
Hasn’t your mother ever told you? It’s not wise to ask a lady her age.
Height:
6’ 1”
Hair Color and Eye Color:
With hair the color of damp earth and gray eyes that shine with an unearthly light Artemis separates herself from the world of bubbly blonde, blue eyed beauties. Her thick brown locks travel well past her stubborn shoulders to swish freely mid-waist. Whether on the hunt or at play the dark strands that crown Artemis’s wondrous head will usually be swept out of the way of her moon like eyes in a tight braid or high pony-tail.

Habits:
Sadly Artemis has more bad habits then good. Ever since she was a child the rough woman had grown accustom to wandering uncharted lands in search of the next great kill, or simply to escape the hectic life of a Goddess. Unfortunately for the other deities she’ll disappear with her nymph companions for weeks, or even months at a time without giving word to anyone. As you can imagine this sends some of the more irritable beings into a frenzy when she’s needed but no where to be found.
Another of this lunar Goddess’s horrid habits is dishing out cruel punishments for minor offences. A young hunter, Actaeon, found this out the hard way. He happened upon a small lake where the virgin Goddess and her nymphs were bathing. Believing that he would boast about the event Artemis, being unable to reach her arrows, splashed water on him turning the young man into a beautiful stag. That wasn’t all. The enraged Goddess didn’t even give the poor boy a chance to run before she set his own hounds after him.
Personality:
Feminist is too mild a word. Artemis is a woman who rules over a man’s sport. Artemis is a woman who, in ancient times, refused to wear the long tunic of a woman and instead donned the clothes of a man. Artemis is a nonconforming female who absolutely refuses to submit to any male, whether they be immortal or human. The deity prides herself in the fact that in a time where most women were confined to the home she defied this norm and traveled the lands as wild and free as the wind. Through out the centuries the huntress has preserved this freedom, and virginity, by distancing herself from all those who flaunt their Y chromosome. Instead surrounded herself by young nymphs who had become her hunting companions and several animals whom have come to know and love the goddess as a guardian. However, no matter how much this feisty Goddess denounces men the ever lasting love for her twin Apollo, the God of the sun, will remain strong.
While she appears harsh and rugged to many Artemis has been associated with children and child birth ever since her own birth on the island of Delos. Vengeance runs deep in the veins of this Goddess but coincidently so does sympathy and compassion. In the old days she was prayed to during labor and in response Artemis would either assist in the birthing or relieve the screaming woman from her pain with a swift arrow. Other then being present at the birthing Artemis would distance herself from the woman and her children until the little devils came to the age of nine and are under the protection of this Goddess once more. That is until marriage snatches them away. Infants and expecting women whether animal
Being a Goddess of the hunt it’s only natural that she be in love with the sport herself. Preferring towering trees and soft moss beds to looming skyscrapers and busy streets Artemis has distanced herself from the busy cities and in the process distanced herself from civilization. While she spent years among tangled vines technology has advanced way beyond that of the ancient people and left the Goddess in the dark. By nature Artemis is angered by things she cannot fully understand and since technology is one of those things that has escaped her mental grasp when the conversation switches to computers or WiFi connections most gawk in shock as she storms off, a cloud of rage following her as she returns to her sanctuary. Much to the surprise of those who do not know the possessive huntress well Artemis will hold onto this fiery rage for weeks, months, or maybe even years all depending on how much she liked the person to begin with.
In our family portrait.
Parents:
Zeus and Leto
Siblings:
Apollo – Twin
All other deities, excluding Aphrodite of course.
Family Dynamics:
Leto, Artemis’s mommy dearest, is very close to her daughter. There is very little that Artemis wouldn’t do for her lovely mother. In the past she had slaughtered in the name of Leto’s honor and there isn’t a doubt in the gray eyed deity’s mind that if her mother called upon her loyal daughter to kill again that she wouldn’t hesitate to fulfill her Titan mother’s wishes. When the mighty Leto’s honor had been on the line Artemis wasn’t the only one to fly to Titaness’s aid. Apollo, Artemis’s younger twin brother, was by his sister’s side letting his golden arrows fly. The bond between the two is legendary and no matter how hard the Fates try to pull these godly twins apart they will always reunite, forgiving one another for any harm done. After all, a family that slays together stays together.
While Artemis is Leto’s beloved daughter and Apollo’s defiant sister to Zeus, her father, she is simply one of his children. There is no special connection or deep seeded hatred between the two. Artemis is his daughter, she shows the right amount of respect to the God King and in return Zeus allows her to run wild across the universe. Hera on the other hand is the person she’d enjoy shooting with her silver arrows the most. This spite filled, jealously fueled, gorgon had despised Leto for having an affair with her husband and the immense hatred had been passed from mother to daughter. It would not be wise to leave these women in a room alone.
History:
The life of this young goddess begins with an unholy action. Despite his vows of holy matrimony to Hera Zeus dared to lay with Leto, the daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe, and in this act of passion and love impregnated the lovely Titaness. Once news spread that Leto was pregnant with Zeus’s twins Hera’s famous rage boiled and in a furious action she decreed that Leto would not give birth on either terra ferma or an island. Zeus took pity on his love and raised a large chunk of land from the ocean depths so that Leto could bare her twins in peace. Delos, as the land was soon named, was no island simply because it drifted freely throughout the sea due to the lack of an anchor. Soon enough Leto gave birth to her first child. An adorable baby girl who she named Artemis.
Only a day after she was born Artemis was put to work. Her mother’s other child was due and being her daughter the dark haired goddess took it upon herself to act as a nurse. For nine days and night Artemis toiled by her mother’s side surround by other Goddesses, excluding Hera of course. Finally after all the pain and moans Apollo was born and Artemis finally had her companion.
Much of her own childhood had been whipped from the memories of her fellow Gods, after all the immortals can’t be asked to remember every tiny detail of their lives. However there are a few events of the virgin Goddess’s which had left their impressions on the memories of her fellow immortals. At the tender age of three the young Artemis made a rather dramatic request. Sitting upon Zeus’s knee the almighty child refused the jewelry and long tunics given to the other goddesses and instead she gave her father a short list of the things she would need to live her eternal life. Ever lasting virginity was at the top of the list. Artemis treasured her purity and wished to remain free from the soul sucking claws of marriage all her life. Woefully Zeus granted her wish and waited patiently for the rest of his daughter’s demands. “Sixty dancing girls, daughters of Ocean, all nine years old, all little sea nymphs. . .” This was the next request of the young Artemis and as the words fell from her pink lips Zeus raised the maidens to be companions of his lovely hunter. Several hounds and a set of white stags to lead her chariot were the final requests of the nine year old. These were granted without question and the young girl danced happily away to show off her silvery arrows to her cherished brother.
Many years of freely roaming the lands followed the heart-to-heart Artemis had had with Zeus and despite the run in with a Theban prince and her little tiffs with Hera the goddess was peaceful. Soon enough another hunter joined the immortal’s party. Orion, a skilled hunter and charming man had accompanied the chaste goddess for several years now and many had dared to say the immortal loved this mortal fool. Sadly it was true. The goddess who had taken a vow to be forever pure had fallen in love and now wanted marriage. Being a protective brother Apollo was furious and in a desperate attempt to preserve his sister’s virginity the sung god hatched a devious plan. Playing on Artemis’s pride Apollo mocked her archery skills and then challenged his elder sister to a little match. Leading the moody goddess to the sea shore, her silver bow in hand, Apollo dared her to hit a small floating speck way off in the tumbling ocean. Being an expert marksman Artemis hit the tiny dot with easy. However there was little rejoicing. The tide brought in the body of Orion and imbedded in the once cobalt blue eye of her fallen love was her own silver arrow.
Once Artemis saw that Apollo was the one who had tricked her into slaying her only love the Goddess, with all her fury, resented the sun bathed man she called brother. For months her grudge held strong but all knew this bitter break between the twins wouldn’t last forever. Just in time the celestial twins were once again an unstoppable team. Coincidentally their making up was soon followed by the Trojan War. Artemis sided with her brother and the Trojans during this bloody battle, fighting against those gods who supported the Greeks. This horrific event in history is where Hera and Artemis finally had the battle they both longed for. With ancient history fresh in her mind, a distasteful time when Hera had boxed a young Artemis’s ears and spilled her arrows, the huntress took aim at the queen and fired several shots. The Fates did not favor the young immortal this time. Hera, after being wounded slightly, stripped Artemis of her silver quiver and proceeded to hit the daughter of Leto on her ear with her own weapon.
Beaten and filled with rage Artemis disappeared from all but Leto and Apollo for years after the war had ended. It wasn’t until the Gods came up with the insane plot to step away from the mortal world that the lunar ruler stepped back into the spotlight. However her entrance was too late, the fate of the gods had been decided and now the spotlight on all the Gods of Olympus was fading. Artemis, one of the Gods who had happily traveled the mortal world as a worshiped immortal was furious and spent the many years picking fights with Hera and any other God who dared to cross her path. . . Yet even with her occasional tiffs the nature loving woman refused to participate in these foolish brawls for power and shouts for change. All she wants is a peaceful forest stocked with game, her hold over the moon, and her delightful brother by her side.

When Artemis has gone missing there are only one way to find her. This would be to call upon her twin Apollo to seek out his wild sister.
