“Maybe.” Throwing out the simple word after Triton mentioned her attempt to put him on some sort of spot. Her voice displayed how tied to the Earth Artemis was at the moment. The soft tone and distant connection of her words meant simply that the goddess was once again roaming within the jungle of her own mind. If the night was so intoxicating with the strangling city lights, the filthy smog, and mumbling humans nearby the ancient being could only imagine how breath taking the view would have been from an empty field or from a seat in the trees. Triton’s stumbling dragged Artemis’s attention from the heavens and planted it back on cool earth. Gaze switching to check up on the demi-god Artemis watched his awkward rolling as he attempted to find a more comfortable spot on his rock, it was only then did she notice the ruby shade his face had taken on. So her twisted words had gotten to the young immortal. The well known smirk came to her face yet again but the edges, which were normally as sharp as her arrows, were softened by the calming effect the lazy light from the moon had on her.
The nymphs must have sensed the shift in the goddess’s mood because their small hands moved slowly through the salty water when only minutes ago they had been slicing through the liquid like a knife through air. As energetic as the Oceanids may be they were still children and children tire. Artemis watched a few of the lazier girls sit among the sands, their bright hair dancing listlessly around them. Soon she’d have to collect her little ones and retreat to the wilderness where they could rest without having to hide their existence from these close-minded fools. Soon, but not now. Artemis herself had no other desire since she stepped onto this beach then to be away from this burning city and the moronic people who populate it but now she was a little reluctant to get up from her cozy stone. Blaming this on a sudden burst of relaxation Artemis allowed her companions to play a little long while she looked to the young god.
“I suppose you’ll be back to your father’s palace soon.” Being born from the waves Triton must have been tired of the dry ground yet Artemis could hardly see how anyone could actually be bored with the nature around them. However she could perfectly understand the dullness of the snarling steal and rough concrete. The wind picked up blowing a pattern across the wave and tossing the sand around wearily. It seemed the night had taken it’s toll on the entire shoreline.
